history of the line
The line was built by the Austrian government (which at that time belonged to the Kingdom of Dalmatia) to connect the region with the rest of the Empire.
However, due to opposition from the Hungarian Government to the construction of the railway in Lika, who would pass on its territory harming the interests of the port of Rijeka, the line Dalmatian remained completely isolated. Only in the late nineteenth century, there is connected the modest Steinbeis railway, narrow gauge, but also the anticipated connection from Split to Sarajevo was never completed.
The Dalmatian was released from isolation rail only with the creation of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which completed the railroad in Lika (1925) and began the train of the One (completed in 1948).
